Octave of Easter

I have enjoyed quite a few Google Meeting this morning.  It has been uplifting to hear how Easter was celebrated from within the family homes within our community.  As we celebrate the Easter season (even if it is snowing) our hearts soar because the waiting from Holy Saturday is over and the tomb is empty!  We are in the Octave of Easter. Octave means an eight-day celebration which ends on the second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday. This IS the GREATEST week of the church year.

Christ is Risen!
Truly He is Risen!!
Alleluia, Alleluia!!!

This amazing gift of Christ, conquering sin and death, cannot be confined into just one day. Each day in the Octave is a 'little Easter' and no other feast is ever celebrated during this week. So...let's keep celebrating!!

Here are a few ways to keep the celebration:
  1. Tune into a church service.
    • Link to Mass live here
    • Easter Vigil: view here
    • Easter Sunday: view here
  2. Wear an Easter dress....take a family photo in your Easter attire and let's post it to inspire others!
  3. Make a bunny toss (old socks stuffed with a little rice and tied with a hair-tie works great for the "bean bag" that is tossed through the holes).
  4. Create a worship playlist and listen to it!
  5. Make an Easter-inspired donation...a little generosity goes a long way.
  6. Write and send an Easter card (maybe to a loved one, grandparents, elderly neighbors or even residents at local nursing home).
  7. Dye Easter eggs (you don't have to be a child to wait in anticipation and wonder of what the egg will look like when it is pulled out of the coloring).
  8. Have an Easter egg hunt in the yard (and if it continues too be cold...do it in the house).  I have older kiddos but we did a Easter hunt in the house and hide everything hard...1.5 hours later everyone was enjoying the treasures found.
  9. Set the table with style...whatever that style is for you.
  10. Blow up some balloons...an easy way to bring cheer to the house.
  11. Make a classic Easter recipe
  12. Create a new tradition this year! No need to focus on what was, because what was is not what is!
  13. Share below an idea your family enjoys.
  14. Sit back and listen to a couple more read aloud:
